Project Description
Upper Applegate All‑Lands Wildfire Resiliency Project
The Applegate Partnership & Watershed Council (APWC) is launching a fuels‑reduction and wildfire‑resiliency effort within the Kubli Road and Wagon Trail Road Firewise Communities. Funded through the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Small Forestland Grant Program, this project will reduce hazardous fuels, improve forest health, and strengthen community preparedness across privately owned lands in the Applegate watershed. The work includes variable‑density thinning, ladder‑fuel removal, mastication, defensible‑space creation, and slash treatment, with a minimum target of 67 acres treated and 28 home assessments completed.
The selected contractor will partner closely with APWC to conduct landowner outreach, develop site‑specific prescriptions, oversee subcontractors, and ensure high‑quality implementation aligned with ecological and community goals. The project also includes comprehensive monitoring, GIS mapping, photo documentation, and strict adherence to state grant requirements, including records retention and audit compliance.
With a project budget of $135,927 and a completion deadline of May 30, 2027, this effort represents a coordinated, landscape‑scale approach to reducing wildfire risk, supporting late‑seral forest development, and enhancing climate resilience. Through collaboration, strategic treatments, and community engagement, APWC aims to protect lives, property, and the ecological integrity of the Applegate watershed.
