Grow Youth Program

Hands-on restoration and service-learning projects for students.

Program Overview

The Grow Youth Program provides students with practical experience in the field of natural resource management through project-based learning.

The program began as a partnership between APWC, Ruch Outdoor Community School (ROCS), and the Jackson County Parks Department. The program is now able to serve more local schools at two locations in the Applegate Watershed - Cantrall Buckley Park and the Provolt Recreation Site.

Throughout this program, students gain skills and hands-on experience with monitoring techniques and equipment commonly used by scientists, foresters, and restoration specialists. The Grow Youth Program empowers students to have a direct impact on a local community resource.

Program Components

Citizen Science

Students get to partake in real-life scientific research including data collection and monitoring of local plants and animals within the Applegate Watershed.

Service-Learning

Students give back to the community through projects such as interpretive sign design, building new park amenities, and trail maintenance.

Riparian Restoration

Students work alongside experts to help restore degraded ecosystems through invasive species removal and planting of native species.
